Al-Ḥakam Ibn-'Amr al-Ghifārī said that the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, advised against 1 a man performing ablution with the unused water of a woman's purification [bath]. Or he said, "...with the remaining water in her vessel ". Footnote: 1) This ḥadīth does not convey a prohibition rule, but rather cautions against an undesirable action that should be avoided when possible. Click on ḥadīth to read more
The companions asked, “Messenger of God, can we perform ablution [using the water] from the Buḍā'ah well(1), [although] it is a well where menstruation rags, dead dogs’ flesh, and rotten things are thrown (2)?" The Messenger of God, peace and blessings of God be upon him, replied, "Indeed, [this] water is pure; nothing can contaminate it (3)(because of its abundance)". Footnotes: 1) A well in Madīnah, known by name. 2) Al-Taibī wrote in his explanation of this ḥadīth that impurities might have reached the well through a route of running water where such things may have been picked up and would then be removed by the flow of water. This is because the pious people living at that time would not have intentionally polluted a clean well. (Source: Tuḥfat al-Aḥwathī Bisharḥ Jāmi’ at-Tirmithī). 3) Al-Qārī explained that the Prophet, peace and blessings of God be upon him, was not making a general rule, but replying to the particular question about the water of that well.
